The 5 'Commandments'

The 5 'Commandments' from the PCYC Over 35 Soccer Committee

1. Honor thy Referee's decision. Thou shalt not (ever) verbally abuse an official (referee or linesman) before, during or after the game - Thou shalt accept all decisions in the spirit of what the competition is supposed to be about!

Soccer players 2. Thou shall not verbally abuse thy opponent-we are here for FUN and FITNESS. Please KEEP THIS IN MIND. Following these guidelines:

  • a. Play the game fairly and with the proper spirit;
  • b. Be polite and cheerful to each other;
  • c. Mingle with other players and teams and help out other teams;
  • d. Help to generate an ENJOYABLE, RESPECTFUL atmosphere - which children can observe and admire.

3. Thou shall not be aggressive or violent towards thy fellow players - we do not want AGGRESSIVE, DANGEROUS PLAY or players instigating VIOLENCE OR THREATS OF VIOLENCE as:

  • a. We are all over 35 in age and the days are long gone when we should have a 'win at all costs attitude';
  • b. This is NOT the place to let off steam-created by work, family or just a bad temperament. Find some other place to do this if you need it;
  • c. If you have always played HARD - now is the time to change, as this competition is not designed for that style of play. You may in fact find that it is more enjoyable when you abandon this style, and your opponents will enjoy the game more also. Surely this is what it is all about ? We also doubt that this means that your effectiveness as a player is going to be significantly decreased;
  • d. Aggressive play can cause injuries and general discontent - either of which could affectively end someone else's playing career.

4. Remember play unto others as you would have them play unto you - YOU GET THE DRIFT by now.

5. Never lose sight of why we play - FITNESS, FRIENDSHIP AND FUN - if this is not why you play, and you are looking for something else such as:

  • a. Fights and threats;
  • b. Aggressive play;
  • c. Hurting others;
  • d. Abuse; or
  • e. Fame - You are in the wrong place !

CAN WE ASK ALL PLAYERS TO TAKE A GOOD HARD LOOK AT THEMSELVES - TO REFLECT UPON WHERE THEY MAY HAVE STRAYED FROM THE PATH - AND FIX THE PROBLEM.
