Welcome to Season 2008

PCYC Over35s Emblem

Welcome to the PCYC OVER 35s FOOTBALL COMPETITION website. Set up in 2004, the objectives of the competition were to provide over aged players an opportunity to continue playing the sport they enjoy most well into their senior years, without the serious competitive edge.

After two years of playing at the Redcliffe Hockey Club, and one year at the PCYC fields, we are now established at the Redcliffe Showgrounds.

The six team, mixed competition is not as competitive as most, and the aim is to provide fitness for those players wanting to continue their love of the game into their "golden years", encourage novices to have a go, involve families and overall promote a fun and enjoyable atmosphere.

With 4 seasons now behind us, we still have 5 original teams in the competition along with Rawhide, who joined us in 2005. We welcome any other teams who may be interested in joining us to make the competition bigger and even better. Individuals are also welcome.

Social Club & Committee

(from Ellen)

Although I will not be at the matches each week this season, I am keen to form an Over 35's Social Club Committee so I welcome all your wive's, partners and better half's to contact me either by email to o35@bigpond.com or by phone during business hours on 3283 3377 or after hours on 0431 375 641.

The aim of the Social Club Committee will be to develop a regular (say every six weeks) get together such as a Beach Day, Ten Pin Bowling, Barefoot Bowls, Group Movie Outting etc which will include your whole family.

The Social Club will also be responsible for fundraising for end of season celebrations (i.e. raffling wine, beer, spirits, meat tray etc). The Social Club will also organise a Team Photo day (I'm sure we will come up with fantastic ideas!).

It would be preferrable that there is at least 1-2 from each team and of course the Men are also welcome to join. The Social Club however would meet once a month on a Friday night whilst all the Men are playing Football. Ellen.

The aim of the competition is to shorten the season, allow a decent break for holidays and involvement with families in other activities, and continue to allow players of mature-age status to play into their golden years without the intensity of serious competitive football.

There are other football competitions in the local area that offer more intense and competitive playing levels. We recommend players seeking those levels consider whether our social competition is suited to their needs.

We also recommend that newcomers and existing players read our Competition Standards before playing this year. Its our intention to stamp out dangerous foul play and verbal abuse towards other players and officials.

Format

The competition format is fairly basic. Games duration is 70 minutes, with a no slide tackle rule, and there are at least 3 games every Friday night. For insurance purposes, all players must be members of PCYC.
